My home away from home

Hello everyone,

First of all my apologies for the wait. I have been in France preparing my cousins wedding so there was some time in between blog posts. The place we went to in France is Sommant, it is a place in the middle of nowhere in the Bourgogne. You can compare it with travelling back in time, the houses, the streets, everything is old fashioned and looks like a ghost town, but a pretty one. My family and I have come to this place for more then 15 times already. We always camp on the grass fields of Chateau de Valogne. I will insert pictures of the castle below. The cool thing is that there is nothing in the neigbourhood at all. As kids we always played hide and seek around the castle, made a swing in the trees, build a dam in the small rivers around the campside and we made long walks and horse rides in the mountains. In the evening we ate marshmallows around the campfire and that was pretty much our holiday. Perfect times! Chateau de Valogne is my home away from home.

This place is so special for our family that my cousin decided to keep her wedding party at the castle. In July family and friends will all go to France, stay in the castle and on the camping and celebrate the wedding. Last weekend we went to prepare the last things like ordering the wedding cake, find a hotel for the wedding night, we had the rehearsal dinner and we found the perfect chappel to keep the wedding ceremony in. I must say that it was a really good training for me to speak French! In such small towns in the mountains hardly anyone speaks English. It was an amazing weekend and I wanted to share some pictures with you! Sorry for the late post but really there is no internet at all. Which was very relaxing on the other hand, time to reflect and relax is always a good thing. Enjoy the sunny weather outside today!

Nailpolish, from zero to addict!

Hello everyone,

If you ask my friends if I would ever wear nailpolish in the past, they will tell you that I was allergic to it. I would never ever wear nailpolish until one year ago. And I must admit I completely understand the reason why you would wear it! I am officially on the nailpolish banwagon these days! In the beginning it was hard to actually put it on, it was everywhere… But after practicing for a while now, I am starting to be good at it. But still, you will never find nailpolish on my toes. Maybe in a few years from now.. ;).

I wanted to share my current favourites with you.


I have spoken about these Rimmel London ones before in my festival essentials post. But the formula of these is a-ma-zing! One coat is enough and they feel like gel nails, they won’t chip for at least four days I promise! My favourite colours are Bestival Blue and Neon Fest.

On the left side there are my current Essie favourites of this time. I love the left one called need-a-vacation which is a perfect colour for a wedding for example. The right colour is essie’s she’s-pampered. A perfect pinky red for a day at the beach!

Festival Essentials

Hello everyone,

Festival season is almost here, so I thought it would the right time to tell you about my festival essentials. Recently there have been many new interesting launches which caught my eye and I found them very useful to bring them to a festival. This summer I will go to Solar festival it is on my birthday so I thought it would be fun to celebrate it together with my friends at a festival. I love festivals and camping together is so much fun. But ofcourse the downside is at a festival you normally get (really) dirty and there is not always the opportunity to have a good shower like you have at home. Here are some tips and tricks to still look fabolous without an everyday shower session.


First tip: Wear nailpolish! I find nothing as dirty as dirty nails. Recently Rimmel London has teamed up with Rita Ora and they came out with an awesome collection of nailpolishes. My favourite one is a light blue called Bestival Blue and a neon pink called Neon Fest. ( I will write a whole blopgost on my current favourite nailpolishes this sunday 12 April)

The second essential are face wipes. Ofcourse it is better to wash your face but you know, sometimes when the party ends really late or you just had one drink to much, face wipes are the ultimate must have for camping. Use ones that don’t sting your eyes, and use a few. With face wipes the tip is to use enough, the more the better to make sure your make-up will be off your face instead of smudged out.

Third essential is a bright lipstick, it makes your tired ‘danced-to-much-until-too-late’ face look more awake. My favourite bright lipstick at the moment is L’oreal Color Riche No. 132 Magnolia Irreverent. It is a lipstick and a nourishing balm in one.

Talking about a tired face and dark circles I have found the perfect foundation for the festival season. Sweat proof, not cakey and it gives you a natural glow. And last but not least it covers your dark circles. It is the L’Oreal Infallible 24H stay fresh foundation. I am in the colour Golden Beige at the moment. First of all the smell of this foundation smells like you have just washed your face which is awesome and secondly it doesn’t have that mask effect!

A good mascara is a must have at a festival. I used to use waterproof mascara’s but they really damage my lashes so I use non-waterproof these days. But I have found the perfect combination of mascara’s that give my lashes volume and length and will stay on when sweating the day away at a festival. It is the Maxfactor Masterpiece transform & the Maxfactor Masterpiece high definition mascara. This combination will give you va-va-voom lashes!

At last everyone needs a little bit of parfum or a nice spritz of something smelling nice after too many dancing. I recently got the mini sizes of the rituals parfum from my mother. I love all of them. They are so mini they will fit in every handbag or even the pocket of your jeans. It is parfum, so the smell also last long!


I don’t like, and I just don’t have the time at a festival to wear much make-up. But with a bright lip, a good cover-up, coloured nails and a good mascara I feel like a newborn dancing queen! 

If you have some extra room in your bag, bring the Aussie Mircale Hairspray Volume & Hold. This stuff does miracles and makes your hair go wild!

Date Night

Hello everyone,

In this blogpost I wanted to write about how to make a date night fun!
Sometimes it can be hard what to choose, going out and do fun stuff, or stay inside and chill out. If you decide to stay inside I have a tip to make your date at home a success. Whether if it is your first date or with your boyfriend or your husband this idea will suit all couples or dates. Cooking toghether gives a topic to talk about if it is your first date. What kind of food do you like? Do you cook often? Are questions you could ask to break the ice. My tip to make a ”stay in” date night fun is to make pizza! My boyfriend and I do love the Italian kitchen especially pizza and pasta. Making pizza ourselves is kind of tradition because my mom always makes pizza herself, and it was always a feast at home since I was little. The making process together is so much fun. Flipping the dough in the air, throwing all the food you like onto the pizza it will definitely make your date a success.

Don’t forget girls, pizza making can get quite messy. Ofcourse you want to look beautiful for your date but put on some nice casual clothing which still looks good when messy! If you can’t have fun because your new expensive dress gets dirty it will ruin the date. Have fun, be yourself and you will be gorgeous naturally. It will make him fall for you, if not then he is just not the right type for you. But al least you have a good pizza to eat after to soothe the idea that this date will not turn into your future husband.

Your Ecological Footprint

Hello everyone,

I got inspired to write a post about our ecological footprint during my environmental policy class last semester. I thought that I was living kind of a ‘green’ lifestyle, leaving the consumption of too many clothing and shopping aside.. Disclaimer; I am not a treehugger grey woolen socks kind of type, but nature is important! I don’t often eat meat or fish, I try to keep it to two times a week. Not because I don’t like it because I basically eat everything except for oysters, but I just feel bad when eating too much. But don’t give me a steak tartare because it will be gone in a second, yam! Further we have a car that does not consume that much petrol and we don’t fly often. So to conclude I thought we were living a good ecological green lifestyle. Until I did the test at WWF called the footpint calculator. The question is, how big is your environmental footprint? Your living habit makes up your footprint. You have to answers questions about food, travel, home and stuff. How often do you travel by car, plain and bus? How many times a week do you eat meat or fish? What is the temparture in your home? Do you have a pet? And there are more…

When you are finished you will see how many ‘earths’ you are using with the lifestyle you currently have. I did mine and I was shocked to say the least. Currently I am using 2.27 earths, and we only have one. It must be that I am an absolute ice queen and the temparture in my house is pleasantly high, maybe if I ever move to the Carribbean my footprint will be lower. I just want to say, DO THE TEST! Its fun, only takes two minutes and you immediatly have some food for thought for the way you live your lifestyle! Love life, love nature.   Click here and do the test!

Last days at Uni & stress how to’s..

Hello everyone,

Currently I am in my last year of university. Like all things the end might seem far away, but two weeks ago it hit me that my days at school are ending really soon. My whole life I have been going to school and now it starts to hit me that after this there will be no time, no school ever again. I first did my bachelor in Law in Rotterdam and by the time my bachelor ended I was 21 and had no clue what to do with my life. So I decided to study again and do a Pre-Master in European Union Studies and the Master afterwards. Why, would you think. Because school felt safe and studying is fun. At school you know what to do and you have your friends around you the whole time. You know when you have an exam and you know what will be expected from you. Now my lasts days at uni are here, (I am 23 now) I want to enjoy every last minute of it. And I know I will because I have to write my thesis so that means spending hours and hours in the library, drinking too much water and eat too much shitty food from the café.

In the meantime I also have to think about the future, that is the thing that scares the shit out of me and my friends. Real life is arriving, what are we going to do after school? Finding a job these days is really hard. Some of us are going to do an internship, some of us want to work. I want to work, I feel like I am ready now. But maybe only because of the fact that me and my boyfriend Mike are going away next year for our long planned world trip. So maybe this year I end up at a job I didn’t study for because in one year we will be gone.. But that is fine! After my world trip though I really want to work!

How to deal with stress?

Studying is fun, I really love it but there are also downsides to it for me. From the age of twelf I started to have hyperventilation ‘attacks’ or ‘moments’. I normally do breathe very fast and when I feel stressed I can end up having a ‘hyper’ moment in which I have pain in my heart and can’t breathe properly. It was in the period when I went to high school. I had anxiety to fail my tests. I know that now, but I didn’t know that at the time. I got into therapy to control my breathing and all was fine after. One tip from me to you is when you expierence stress, find a moment for yourself at one point of the day and just lay down and focus on your breathing. This really helps relieving stress. Because you focus so much on your breathing, your mind has no room to think of anything else and you will calm down. I don’t have hyperventilation that often anymore, maybe once a year now. I feel when it could come and then I try to take a moment and lay down amd the anxiety feeling will be gone before I can start to hyperventilate.

But that doesn’t mean I do not majorly stress out everytime I have an exam. For me it is like running a marathon, and I definitely need a good shower afterwards (TMI). What I now do to stay calm is I use homeopathic medicins that help me stay calm. They are called Valdispert. It has valerian in it. Valerian soothes nerves, calms feelings of agitation, improves the readiness to go to sleep and soothes feelings of anxiety and stress. It is not bad for you and it has no side affects. If you suffer from anxiety, nerves or major stress attacks before an exam I really recommend valerian. It helped for me! Good luck studying and try not to stress out.


Now it is time to study again because one thing deadlines do not do, is wait!

Current workout routine

Hello everyone,

We are in those days, THE days before summer.. Before we have to jump in our bikini’s or boardshort for the guys amongst us. The last three summers I was a kitesurf instructor, so I didn’t had to think about what to eat or when to sport because I was active whole day long! But in the winter when the days are too cold to surf, or I just don’t have the time because of school, I need to find different ways to stay active.

My current workout routine consists of two workouts per week. Nothing too crazy but I notice that they are effective. Once, sometimes twice a week I go swimming in an indoor swimming pool. I swim for around 45 minutes and reach the 1,5 kilometers. Fact, for every minute you swim you burn 10 calories, and it is a great totall body workout! The other workout I do once a week is running. I really struggle everytime to go out and go running, this because I do not like it that much. But running is effective, and since I live by the sea running along the coastline isn’t that bad. Everytime I run I go for 5 kilometers in 30 minutes, that counts for an average of 360 calories. Now I know it isn’t about counting calories but I just want to give an example! Ofcourse eating healthy and proportionate and resting is really important too!!  And when school is getting a little bit less time consuming and the weather is becoming better I will be back on the water everyday the wind blows. So then I will switch from this routine to my happy mermaid kiting routine. Kitesurfing is a really good totall body workout and it also clears your mind. Let it be a thing on your bucket list!


It is good to find a sport, workout or exercise you like. If swimming or running is not your thing then all is fine! Most important is to enjoy your workout and workout area (like running by the sea is my thing, but running on concrete not really). Or find yourself someone to workout with! Another tip is to set a goal for yourself, if you want to accomplish a goal set by yourself and you have the willpower then GO and be active! For example if you want to run 15 kilometers once in your life then do it!

Fragrance mist, easy and low cost

Now spring has arrived I thought it would be a good time to talk about fragance mists or body mists as I say. We almost all have experienced the itchiness of our neck when wearing parfume in the summertime and the sun shining on it. Parfume and sun is not a good combination, your skin can show of an allergic reaction if it is exposed to sunlight. It is not really good for your skin and it itches like (you name it). So I have a better option, wear fragrance mists! There are a lot of advantages of wearing a fragrance mist in summer, and also the whole year round. First of all fragrance mists smell most of the time the same as the parfume only they do not linger around as long as the parfume. How can this be an advantage? The parfume has been watered down so you never oversmell of too much parfume! Fragrance mists are way more cheap then the actual parfume, for students like me this is a good tip to save money all year round. If you want to smell nice, buy a fragrance mist instead of the expensive parfume. Fragrance mists do not itch in the sun, because of a lighter consistency then a normal parfum you can wear out in the open sun! For me a fragrance mist is a must have in my beach bag.

I will share with you my two most beloved brands who do amazing fragrance mists and my favourte scent thereof. Victoria’s secret does the most amazing fragrance mists, my favourite one is pure seduction. It has red plum & freesia in it. Everytime I spritz some mist on myself it feels like I am on a beach. It smells so fresh and nice, definitely worth a try! And the Body Shop knows how to do a good fragrance mist, the scent tends to hang around for quite a while also! Good worth for your money. My favourite scent is the new one from the Red Musk line. It has a really nice warm scent and it makes you feel sexy instantly.IMG_20150326_095757 (1)

Insurgent film and real life

Hello everyone,

I was so excited Insurgent was out in the theaters, so the first night I had free time I went straight to the theater to wacht it. I was already a huge fun of divergent. Normally I am not an action film type of girl but lately with the Hunger games series, the Maze runner series and the Divergent series I’m all into action films. But last night Insurgent kept me thinking about life. If you do not know about the series I will give you a short summary. Basicly the characters live in a designed world where at age sixteen they have to choose a faction. There are five factions, Abnegation for the selfless; Amity for the peaceful; Candor for the honest; Dauntless for the brave and Eridute for the intellectual. There are also factionless people, they do not belong to any of the factions above.Then there is Tris she is divergent, she does belong to all factions. But when people (Eridute) finds out that someone is divergent they will haunt them down. So Tris hides the fact that she is divergent and joins Dauntless..

Back to my story, Insurgent the second film of the Divergent series is about the divergents standing up to Eridute who say that divergents are a threat to society. I will not go further into detail because I do not want to spoil the film. But the film gave a good overview of the factions and it looked really similar to real life. In real life at the age 20 – 25 we are supposed to choose our future jobs/career path. This can be formed by the study we chose or the things we aspire and our character. For Dauntless we have our armed forces, Amity for human rights and freedom speakers, for Eridute we have the people who study endlessly and work in business, Candor for our law making bodies and courts, and Abnigation for nurses and people in the hospitals and schools. I just give an example here, I do not want to stigmatize any jobs or say that one faction is better then another. Because in real life we need every of the above characters as I say it. Without people in the hospital we will not survive illness, without people in the court there will be no justice and so on.

At last we have the factionless, and this is wat we are all scared for in life, that we don’t fit in. I tried to fit myself into a faction, just to see where I would fit in the most. It would definitely not fit in Dauntless I am scared of too much things. It wouldn’t be in Abnegation, I am more on the Amity side. Family and friends are really important to me, if they have something I would and wish that I could do someting to help them. But Erudite also intrigues me because I like to study (but I don’t like exams!). But the people in Erudite in the film are not so nice so I will hold on to Amity.

To wrap it up, the film captures the struggles of growing up and making life choices. Which faction, which career in life are you going to choose? I have a strong feeling against that and I am all for exploring what you want in life and going through different phases in life. But I do need to say that you should take responsibility for your future and it does not come with the wind so fight for it yourself! Just like Tris, and do that with the people you love around you. They make life so much easier.

The Bucket list

Hello everyone,

Today is a good day to write down your bucket list. That is already the first step to start with. Everyone has that one thing that he or she wants to do but never really actually does. It is always in your mind, so to start off write it down! If you don’t have anything you can think of what you want to try or do before you die, you sure have after you read this post! I will also provide you with a list of my ‘must does before I can’t anymore’. A bucket list is something where you can go all out of your comfort zone. To do the crazy, memorable, beautiful things in life alone or with somebody else. Don’t think I can’t, or that will never happen, a positive mindset is the way to start. IMG_20150320_134033

My bucket list in a random order, because I love it all!

1. Buy an old car, preferably a Volkswagen campervan.
2. Worldtrip, where I get really lost in nature & sea (next year!!)
3. Write a book
4. Start a blog
5. Run a race, for which you actually get a medal at the end. (Maybe a 15 km one day?)
6. Visit all the Northern Islands of the Netherlands
7. To actually speak French fluent, not as crappy as I do now.
8. To teach at a school, english, history or geography
9. To do voluntary work in Africa, by building schools or houses for example
10. Skydiving
11. Open a Bed&Breakfast

I can go on and on, but this is just an example. To learn a new sport; to learn a new language; go to new places; everything can be on your bucket list. But make sure to make a difference between items that are on your bucket list and between an ideal that you have or how you want your future to look like. Bucket list items are more things that you want to do not about what you want your life to look like. If you are scared to do things alone, you can always ask somebody else to join you on your bucket list items and share the fun. Everytime something pops up in your head that you really want to do in life, just write it down! In the picture above you can see my ”bucket list book” wherein all my items are written down. Have a nice weekend and start working on your bucket list!
