Hotspot: Mama Kelly

Hello everyone,

Sunday the 02nd of August was my 24th Birthday! I had a blast, and celebrated it with friends on Solar Festival in the Netherlands. The next day I went out with my parents to grab dinner in one of the new hotspots in the Hague, Mama Kelly. The Restaurant opened in April 2015. Mama Kelly is located just outside the heart of the city on an industrial area near a canal. Plus side, because it is outside the heart of the city you have lots of parking space, for free! Mama Kelly is a bigger restaurant, or as they call themselves an Urban Bistro. The menu is quite simple, you can choose lobster or chicken, ofcourse there are also vegetarian options such as risotto and other options as fish and steak.

Overall the main focus of the bistro lies on lobster or chicken. You can have your lobster or chicken in three different but all very tasty flavours, it is served with fries and salad. I had the lobster and it was amazing, I love to eat lobster when there is  a  special occasion. Mama Kelly is a great restaurant and the food is amazing. Because it was very sunny we ate outside on the terrace which is huge by the way!

The service is great, it is so important for a new restaurant to have great staff it really can make or break your restaurant. Because it was my birthday I received a FREE yes, free bottle of prosecco with balloons on it from Mama Kelly. That was not all, on the bill they wrote a nice thank you note, and wished me all the best in the next year. That really made the whole Mama Kelly experience perfect.

Overall, just go, eat, drink and have fun at Mama Kelly.

Wish you all a lovely day, Irina

Let the adventurer out

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I went kitesurfing with Mike and our good friend Frank. It was really windy, I had not been on the water for three months because of school and work. The timing was just not right everytime there was wind. Yesterday was the right time, finally I have holidays (vacation) right now so there was no excuse not to go. Why do I need an excuse to do something I really love? That is the question, I did not know. Sometimes life can swallow you up and you forget to do the things that make you excited and you stick to the ‘normal’ life. You think that if you do not too crazy then everything will fall in its place. Yesterday I remembered that the adventurer part in me has died over the past months because life swallowed me up in stress and busy days. The advise is GO! Go out there, let everything out, seek the thrill. It may scare you at first but afterwards you feel so relieved and happy! Let the adventurer out!

– Think a little less, live a little more –

Seek your adventure, it can be anything, anything that makes you feel alive. I can recommend watching the film ‘Paper Towns’. In the film it is all about feeling alive, and live a little more. That is also the whole reason why I started kiteboarding, I wanted to do something I thought I never could. Now I can, but that does not mean that I don’t get a thingly feeling everytime I hit the water. Life truly begins at the end of your comfort zone.

adventure

Go seek your adventure girls! It will make you so much stronger!

With love, Irina ♡

My week in pictures.

Hello everyone!

What a week, it was blooming hot in the Netherlands! I had an awesome week the past week and have been on the beach almost every day, or writing on my thesis! I will bring you along the past week with the pictures that I have shot for you! Most of the pictures are taken with my new phone the Sony Experia Z3 compact. Shoutout to Sony, this phone is awesome, it can go under water and has a 21 mega pixel camera.  With this phone I can make good photo’s for my blog!

On wednesday evening I hung out with friends, we ordered pizza and had a picknick at the beach. We saw the sunset, and after we chilled out at a beachclub. Just a perfect night!

 Friends

On Friday Mike and I went to a festival with lots of theathers on the festival called; De Parade in the Hague. We had a lot of fun and saw a nice show in one of the theathres called ”Love is a donut”.

Zen life on the beach

Hello everyone!

Summer has officially started and this week there is a heatwave in the Netherlands! I love the sun, but unfortunately I miss out on the sun this week, because I will be in the library all day to work on my Master thesis. But no sad times, this blogpost will be on how to stay zen in the stressful times at school, work or anything else. All you need is an outdoor space you can relax and clear your mind. For me, my outdoor space is the beach, it does not matter which beach, every beach is perfect! Yesterday I literally lost my motivation and felt so stressed about school that I decided to put my running clothes on and just run, run, run. I ran for about 5 kilometers along the side of the beach and every time I wanted to stop I told myself to push a little bit harder and keep running. Running, or just sporting in general can lay your focus from stress related stuff to fun things, being active really helps you to relief stress and gain self-consciousness about your body, mind and inner self. After I did my 5K run I walked over to the sea and dipped my feet in the water, cold water helps you to calm down, literally. I do not mean a cold shower but dipping your feet or hands in cold water for a few minutes will help you to relax.

IMG_20150629_144101

My number 1 tip is just go outside, put your workload aside for an hour and then go back to work and you will start with a lot of new motivation. Sometimes things have to be done, no matter how irritating they are for you. Have a breather and go! You can do it, never think you cannot. Another tip is to listen to powerful music, put on some power songs that make you happy and it will energize you to do stuff! Sleeping well is also of a big importance to improve your concentration.

I hope you found the tips helpful and good luck everybody with school and work!

With love, Irina♡

DESIGN.

Hello everyone!

First of all I wanted to thank you for the support, my blog has had so many views recently I couldn’t be happier. Today we will talk about design and home stuff. Last Saturday I was at the Design festival in the Hague called ‘Designkwartier’ or in English Design quarter. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of foodtrucks and pop-up bars outside. I can say it was quite a feast. I am not a homewear or design professional or whatsoever, and usually I do not go to this kind of things but two friends of my went and I joined and I absolutely loved it! On the other hand I do have a soft spot for watching TV programmes about redecorating houses or gardens. Yes I know, super lame but I could bingewatch them if they were on TV the whole evening.

The design festival was really interesting and we had the opportunity to go into buildings and houses and look at so many designers and ways of how people would decorate their home. I love the fact that everything is handmade, and that there is love and passion in the product you buy. Another nice thing is that your piece is unique or at least quite rare. I will insert some pictures of the festival here.

Designkwartier

Last year in January me and my boyfriend moved in together and we had to decorate our home together which was so much fun. We both really love things made of wood and we like white furniture. Our interior is based on Nordic design, sleek, a lot of wood, whites and a little bit of darker grey and black colours as a detail. For example our kitchen and bathroom are black and white. (For some pictures of our house just take a scroll through some older instagram photo’s of me @irinavannamen). Also take a look on my Pinterest where I pinned a lot on my homestuff page!

When we were on holiday in Copenhagen me and Mike scrolled through some interior and design shops, you can’t avoid them they are everywhere and you literally want everything inside of them. One of our favorite ones was Boffi. Take a look on their website, and it will have you dreaming about your future home!

For now, I will go to bed. This week I am going to Luxembourg on a school trip and I am visiting the European Investment Bank and the Dutch Ambassy there! A blogpost about the trip will be up next week.

P.S: On the festival I saw these ‘corkers’, I thought this is amazing to give as a small gift to somebody just for fun! IMG_20150530_155948[1]

Weekend VLOG,

Hello everyone,

I want to take you on a ride trough my weekend!

Friday 22nd of May 2015, Goodmorning! alright, almost good afternoon, I had a really nice sleep-in because I worked untill pretty late at my waitress job at Hotel New York in Rotterdam. But I’ve got to rush now because I am going back to the south where I come from to say goodbye to one of my good friends Rudy. We planned lunch together at the beach with another friend, Mareille, just to have a good chat before she leaves! It was awesome, I always love spending quality time with friends, its just the best thing! Then we went to her house, had some cuddles with the rabbit, said goodbye and it was time to go home for a date night with Mike! Because I have finished all my master courses it was time to celebrate it with some drinks & dinner, we celebrated a real typical Mike&Irina style, Vapiano (Pasta) & movienight at the theatre, We went to Project T with George Clooney, (my oh my) he gets handsomer every year. It was a fun Disney movie, kind of the childish version of Interstellar but fun!! 🙂Rudy Goodbye

Saturday 23nd of May 2015, Actually I had a good workingvibe today and worked on my thesis for a few hours, did some cleaning in the house. We all know it has to be done, so better start right away with it and you feel so much better after! We have had quite some busy months behind us so tonight was another ‘date-night with the BF’. I decided to be a good housewife and cooked some nice dinner, bought a nice wine you know the drill. We all know we want to take care of our boyfriends sometimes, it’s a natural instict. But not too much ladies, they have to work for us too;). This is the dress I wore. We watched the Eurovision songfestival too! Which act was your favourite? I loved the song from Hungary, it had such an awesome message, deep thoughts..

Sunday 24nd of May 2015, Early alarm day, of too work at 07:45. I was actually happy to go because I am always so scared that I oversleep that I am almost awake the whole night. It was such a busy day, time flew by and that ment that it was time to go to the Kite Board Open in Noordwijk. I was so exited, the band Orange Grove was playing and they come from Sint Maarten (Carribbean). I used to live there while I was doing my internship there at a lawyers office. I loved the band, so I needed to see them while they were in the Netherlands! Ill insert my favourite song right here! It was great cathing up with my friend Imke too, shoutout to you kite girl!

Hoped you enjoyed the ride through my weekend!

Wish you all the best, with love Irina

Today is a good day

Hello everyone,

Today is a good day! While I was writing my thesis, (or at least made an attempt to write) I got an email with the grade I needed to finish my last course. Yeaah I got it, I wanted to scream soo loud but I was in the library so I was squeaking like a little bird while exploding on the inside. This gives me so much new energy to finish my thesis and to focus on the future you can’t imagine. Lately with all the weddings and finishing school I feel almost happier then ever! Time to focus on the future, but what do I want? I have no clue at all, I’d love to work the whole summer in Ibiza, the South of France, or intern at a fashion magazine or an ambassy somewhere. But who knows, I will keep you posted on that. For now it is time to lock myself up a few weeks in the library and hopefully succeed. I know for sure that if I make it there will be a party that has no time limit;).

I just wanted to share the positive vibes for today! Get done whatever you want to be done, chase your dreams instead of dreaming about them. Get out of bed, and try, it is never too late!

Goooood luck all. With love, Irina

Spring Wedding

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a very very happy moment with you on my moment-of-happiness blog! Today is the after-wedding-party day and my oh my it was such a good day yesterday.
Let me start at the beginning, me and my friends know eachother for over more then 13 years, and yesterday Sophie was the 1st of us to be married. I cannot describe how beautiful and emotional a day it was. The first moment you see your friend shine in her wedding dress and see the smile on her face next to her husband brought tears to my eyes. On a day like that you can literally feel the love, like it is a touchable thing. It was an amazing day! Because of the wedding I also wanted to insert a little outfit of the day style idea for spring weddings!

The dresscode was pastel colours and me and my friends decided to wear a long dress. I wore a seablue Zara dress, Mark & Spencers shoes with a see through heel, Rimmel london pillow talk nailpolish, a River Island feather ring and an Asos headband with flowers.

Asos flower headband

Zara dress

accessoiresI didn’t wore lipstick because there is a lot of kissing and eating involved at a wedding, instead of lipstick I chose to wear nivea nourishing lip butter in raspberry. At last I wanted to insert a picture of the gorgoeus bride and groom!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Hope you all have a nice weekend. With love, Irina

Websites to wander around on

Hello everyone,

For everyone who needs a 15 minutes break during work, schoolwork or in general I have some websites on which you can wander around on and forget that you have soo much to do still.

Ofcourse we all know ASOS, but have you discovered there daily news feed on their website already? Click on this link to go to Asos daily news edit to discover all the ins and outs on fashion. You also get some ins and outs about what the celebs wear to events, the latest trends and the no-goes.

Did you always wanted that leather fringe jacket or a perfect chair and you couldn’t find it? Etsy is the place for everything and everyone. It is basically a huge marketplace, the good thing is the people or companies mostly ship worldwide. Another bonus is that most of the stuff is unique, that way you always buy something special. Just type in the search bar what you are looking for and there it is! Etsy is really everything you have ever wanted. Click here to go to the Etsy website!

For all the surfergirls out there you should take a look on the SurfGirl magazine website. It is really amazing. From information about the best festivals, travel stories, fitness to ofcourse a lot of surfstories and anything surf related! The websites hosts also a wide range of inspiring videos to watch. The magazine also has an online shop called SurfGirl Beach Boutique. Girls while on there keep an eye on your wallet!

Free people is a shop who sells bohemian clothing, but the clothes are so wavy and creamy that you instantly see yourself wearing those kaftans on a beach somewhere! I don’t really buy stuff from the website, but the website counts for me as a huge inspiration for my style.

At last I wanted to conclude with a short film from the Stradivarius website. They make such inspiring videos in order to show their collection. Make sure you check out the:

Enjoy your day everyone and make it a productive one.

Your Ecological Footprint

Hello everyone,

I got inspired to write a post about our ecological footprint during my environmental policy class last semester. I thought that I was living kind of a ‘green’ lifestyle, leaving the consumption of too many clothing and shopping aside.. Disclaimer; I am not a treehugger grey woolen socks kind of type, but nature is important! I don’t often eat meat or fish, I try to keep it to two times a week. Not because I don’t like it because I basically eat everything except for oysters, but I just feel bad when eating too much. But don’t give me a steak tartare because it will be gone in a second, yam! Further we have a car that does not consume that much petrol and we don’t fly often. So to conclude I thought we were living a good ecological green lifestyle. Until I did the test at WWF called the footpint calculator. The question is, how big is your environmental footprint? Your living habit makes up your footprint. You have to answers questions about food, travel, home and stuff. How often do you travel by car, plain and bus? How many times a week do you eat meat or fish? What is the temparture in your home? Do you have a pet? And there are more…

When you are finished you will see how many ‘earths’ you are using with the lifestyle you currently have. I did mine and I was shocked to say the least. Currently I am using 2.27 earths, and we only have one. It must be that I am an absolute ice queen and the temparture in my house is pleasantly high, maybe if I ever move to the Carribbean my footprint will be lower. I just want to say, DO THE TEST! Its fun, only takes two minutes and you immediatly have some food for thought for the way you live your lifestyle! Love life, love nature.

http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/   Click here and do the test!
Leave your result in the comments below if you’d like.

This video is from last Earth Hour 2015, a must watch!

 Good luck, with love Irina
